BRUSH LOOKS TO GET BACK ON TRACK

Posted on: Fri 02 Oct 2009

Paul Brush is looking for Southend United to get back on track against Stockport County this Saturday.

Having seen the Blues lose their last two matches in League One, the assistant manager admitted his recent frustration, but is now targeting a return to form on the road.

With the focus on Stockport, Brush knows the team need to be competitive to make sure they come away with a positive result.

"It has not been the best week's sleep I have had," Paul told Blues Player.

"It has been frustrating in recent games, but we have to look forward to the next match now.

"We need to move on and start playing better than we are at the moment and if we do that, then these recent results become a distance memory.

"They say that decisions even themselves out over the season, so it would be nice if that happened this weekend.

"We should have had two draws against Oldham and Brentford, even without playing well.

"But now we have to go to Stockport and work hard to try and bring back at least a point and get our season back on track.

"We have spoken about Stockport this week and we know that they will be difficult to beat at home.

"Of course, we will go there and try and play football and be competitive."

Southend made a switch at Brentford with Simon Francis reverting to his favoured position of right back to improve the attacking intent down the wing, but Brush is looking for more creativity throughout the whole side.

He said: "Simon Francis has played well this season and has probably put more crosses into the box than the rest of the side put together.

"The scope is to go forward and he is better at doing that than Osei Sankofa, but Osei played very well the other day defensively and was confident.

"But you have to have some options in front of you for him to pass to at times.

"You can't expect a full back to carry the ball 60 yards and cross it, you need a little bit more interchange of play, which we have failed to do recently.

"Everyone can be involved in creativity; it doesn't just have to be the forwards.

"We have been destructive and not constructive in midfield and that is the key area for us to improve in."
