Steve Tilson cut a frustrated figure, after Southend United's first home defeat of the season against Oldham Athletic.

The Blues chief admitted that the team produced a lacklustre performance at home and failed to create the chances needed to get something out of the match.

"We never got going today," Steve told Blues Player.

"It was a lacklustre performance and we didn't do enough to win the game.

"We didn't pass the ball well enough and each man for himself wasn't up for it.

"It was a great opportunity to win and get in the top seven, but we deserved what we got.

"I haven't seen the penalty for their goal, but being at home I expected us to be more creative.

"It was a great ball from Dougie at the end for Francis and he has got to score, it's as a simple as that.

"This is a tight league and apart from Leeds and Charlton, everyone is beating each other and I think it will stay the same all year.

"We now have the opportunity to bounce back in three days time at Brentford. Our attitude will need to be spot-on and if it is, then we will be okay.

"Jean was in a lot of pain in his hip area and didn't play, so we will have to wait and see about him for Tuesday."
