Southend United's new left-back George Friend was only just learning the names of his new team-mates when thrown into action last weekend.
The Wolverhampton Wanderers loanee arrived at Roots Hall on Friday from the Premier League outfit.
And he admitted this week that he had to improvise when talking to his new found friends.
"I only arrived the day before the Brighton game and wasn't sure of all the players names during the game," said Friend.
"It was a great first game to play in and I'm delighted to be here at Southend.
"I've only heard good things about the manager Steve Tilson and the players.
"And one of my best mates lives in Essex too so he told me all about the area which has helped.
"I'm looking forward to the games, starting with the one against Oldham."
