Franck Moussa wants to keep the Southend United fans cheering and not jeering in the first round of the Carling Cup at Cheltenham Town tonight.
The Belgian midfielder received a rapturous reception after his man of the match display in the first game of the season against Huddersfield Town on Saturday.
And, he is now aiming for a similar reaction this evening, especially as he now understands the Blues supporters unusual way of chanting his name.
"When they first started doing it my brother was in the stand and he came to me after the match and told me I was being booed," said Moussa.
"I didn't really know what he was talking about but when I found out it was the supporters chanting my name it was a great feeling.
"It really does spur me on when I hear it and hopefully we can give the fans plenty more to be cheering about this year."
Moussa opened his goalscoring account for the campaign with a neatly taken strike in the 2-2 draw with the Terriers.
He impressively slotted home a pass from Alan McCormack and was pleased by the performance of the Blues who were on top for large spells against one of the league's strongest sides.
"I think we've shown that we can match any of the teams in our division," said Moussa.
"It's been good for confidence and now we want to build on it against Cheltenham by getting a good result and going through to the next round."
That would delight Moussa who is keen to enjoy a memorable run in the competition.
"It would be brilliant if we could play against one of the big teams again," he said.
"We've had games against Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham over the last few years and it would be great to take on another of the best teams in the country but right now we're thinking about just Cheltenham."
