Southend United will trial ex-Sheffield Wednesday left-back Peter Gilbert at Stevenage Borough this evening (7.45pm).
Blues will run the rule over the former Owls defender in their final pre-season friendly.
Gilbert, 26, made 43 appearances at Hillsborough in the Championship and has spent time at Birmingham, Plymouth and Leicester City.
Meanwhile, Southend United's new arrivals Matt Heath and John White will be on display at Broadhall Way.
The pair will feature in defence alongside full-back Simon Francis as they look towards the start of the new season.
Heath and White arrived on an initial one month loan from United's rivals Colchester United on Thursday.
Captain Adam Barrett however will not be risked after missing the past ten days with a knee injury he picked up against Ipswich Town.
The defender is hopeful of returning to training on Monday and being in contention for the start of the season.
Striker Dougie Freedman and Kevin Betsy are also included in the travelling party having recovered from ankle injuries.
Winger Damian Scannell is unavailable with swine flu and an ankle injury whilst Osei Sankofa is still sidelined with an Achilles problem.
Chelsea loanee Lee Sawyer is also out with a bruised rib that the 19-year-old has been carrying for the past fortnight.
