CHELTENHAM AGAIN IN CARLING CUP

Southend United have been drawn against Cheltenham Town away in the first round of the Carling Cup draw.

It will be the third season in a row that the Blues have faced the Robins in the opening stage of the competition.

On the previous two occasions the matches took place at Roots Hall, although on this time round Southend will visit Whaddon Road.

Last season United lost 1-0 whilst in 2007 a 4-1 extra-time victory saw Steve Tilson's side through.

Blues were seeded for the first round of the competition which was regionalised and took place at the Football League's headquarters this morning.

First round ties will be played the week commencing 10th August. Full details and ticketing arrangements will be announced at a later date.
