Season Card sales for next season have already surpassed the total sold at the same point last year Southend United confirmed today.

More than 4,000 fans have already purchased their season cards for the forthcoming League One campaign which kicks off in August.

And that is significantly higher than this time last year.

"Its great that the fans have again showed their loyalty towards us," said the Blues assistant manager Paul Brush.

"There was a real togetherness with everyone towards the end of last season, especially away from home and the supporters were great.

"We will need them again next year and I'm sure we will put together a committed side who will give their all and make it good to be a Southend supporter."

Season card sales are more than 100 higher than this time last summer and close to 300 fans have signed up for the first time, much to the delight of the clubs Director of Commercial Services Garry Adamson.

"It's a real testament to the fantastic supporters that we have at this club," said Adamson.

"To be well above what we had sold at the same point last season is brilliant, especially in the current credit crunch.

"We've almost 300 new season card holders and we fully expect to have more before the season starts.

"It was important for us to listen to what supporters wanted and we hope that both our pricing and the ability to pay in up to 10 instalments have assisted fans.

Adamson added that Blues had been working hard to improve their attendances through family initiatives and modern technology schemes to keep them ahead of their rivals.

"Having spoken to other clubs in our division Southend United is certainly bucking the trend in renewals," he added.
