TILSON SEEKS HOME COMFORTS

Posted on: Fri 23 Jan 2009

Steve Tilson is keeping a positive outlook ahead of Saturday's League One clash with Yeovil and is looking for home advantage to count in their favour.

The Blues chief wants the team to build on their performance at Leyton Orient and take the three points he felt they should have gained on Tuesday night.

"I watched Yeovil play Leicester on Monday and to be fair, they didn't do badly," said Steve.

"I say it week-in week-out, but any game in this league is tough and Saturday will be no different.

"But being at home, even with the injuries we have got, it's a game we are looking to win.

"We have to be positive. The lads did fantastic against Leyton Orient on Tuesday and I thought we should have won the game.

"We dominated the game for long periods and it was a pleasing performance. We dug in and worked hard and were disappointed not to get the three points.

"I thought James Walker came on and did fantastic. He was really positive, caused their right-back a lot of problems and capped it off at the end with a great goal."

Southend have not found favour with injuries and suffered a big loss on Tuesday night, with Alex Revell ruled out for the rest of the season after breaking his leg.

"It is a massive blow for Alex and for us," he said.

"He works tirelessly and has just had a massive run of games. I'm sure he would probably have liked to have scored more goals, but his work rate has been fantastic and it leaves us another body short.

"Irrelevant of football, for someone to break their leg, it is a massive blow, but I'm sure Revs will work hard to get himself back fit.

"Dougie injured the inside of his thigh and he shouldn't be out for too long, but is doubtful for Saturday's game."

Tilson also admitted that the Blues are continuing their search for new players and is hopeful of completing some permanent deals before the close of the January transfer window.

He said: "We have been working hard and have been ringing a number of clubs, but it is difficult to get the right bodies in.

"We are working through the list and will carry on doing that.

"Hopefully, we can get one or two new players in on a permanent basis. It is a case of whether we can do a deal with a club."
