KEEPER JOYCE SET FOR DEBUT

Posted on: Fri 19 Sep 2008

Southend United boss Steve Tilson will hand goalkeeper Ian Joyce his Football League debut against Crewe Alexandra on Saturday.

Joyce, 23, is yet to make his first professional start but will be handed his chance at Gresty Road.

The American shot-stopper, who signed on a free transfer from Watford in the summer, has been called into action to cover for the injured Steve Mildenhall.

Mildenhall faces at least four weeks on the sidelines after damaging ligaments in his right ankle during last Saturday's 1-0 win against Hereford United.

Meanwhile, midfielder Alan McCormack is Blues only other injury concern with the Irishman set to play in a behind closed doors match next week against Charlton Athletic.

McCormack has been missing since pre-season with a knee injury.

Supporters planning on travelling to Crewe are reminded that it is pay on the day for away supporters.
