FRIENDLY WIN AT FULHAM
A Southend United reserve side won a behind closed doors friendly match against Premier League Fulham at the Cottagers training ground this afternoon.
Goals from Jamie Forshaw, Paul Furlong, a Stuart O'Keefe penalty and a strike from an impressive looking centre-forward trialist sealed a 4-2 win for Southend at Morspur Park.
With Fulham facing Carling Cup action on Wednesday evening they fielded a young side including goalkeeper David Stockdale and former Leyton Orient defender Gabriel Zakuani.
Dean Austin, reserve manager, told southendunited.co.uk: "We haven't got a reserve game for a while so it was a good opportunity to keep everyone ticking over.
"The forward trialist looked decent but I don't want to give anything away and alert others whilst we are still looking at him."
Portsmouth midfield trialist Jean-François Christophe also completed 90 minutes of football following his five day spell at Roots Hall.
