Assistant boss Paul Brush has insisted that age is only a number following the capture of Paul Furlong yesterday.
Furlong, 40 in October, will be United's oldest ever player when he steps onto the pitch next season.
But despite being the oldest, Brush expects him to be on of the fittest of the current squad.
"Age is a number when you're as fit as the lad is," Brush told Blues World in an exclusively interview.
"His body fat is actually less than any player we had with the club last season.
"He's played at every level and we think that he can pass on a lot of experience and a lot of guidance both on the field and on the training field.
"I've put him under pressure already and he'll be a little bit of a cross between Lee Bradbury and Shaun Goater - two players that had so much respect from the other players here."
However, Brush did confirm that they wouldn't be looking for the former Luton Town striker to play every game next season.
Furlong managed 38 appearances last season, scoring 12 goals, as the Hatters were relegated from League One.
"We're not expecting him to play 54 games and 90 minutes every game," he said.
"When he's out there we're looking for him to make an input by helping to bring on the other forwards that we've got at the club with both his experience and knowledge."
