FREDDY: I NEARLY CAME HOME

Posted on: Fri 20 Jun 2008

Former Southend favourite Freddy Eastwood was close to making a sensational return to Roots Hall last season.

Eastwood, 24, spent three successful seasons at Southend as his 65 goals fired United to two consecutive promotions before a £1.5million switch to Wolverhampton Wanderers 12 months ago.

But having struggled to hold down a regular place at the Molineux club, Eastwood nearly came back to Southend to aid Blues League One play-off push the striker has revealed.

"I did have talks with Steve Tilson and I told him I was interested in coming back to Southend towards the end of the season," said Eastwood who confirmed that he is likely to leave Wolves this summer.

"They were going for the League One play-offs at the time and I wanted to try and help them win promotion back into the Championship.

"Wolves said I wasn't allowed to go out on loan to another club in the same division and at one point I really thought I was going to be heading back to Southend.

"But in the end Wolves stopped me going there, which was a shame because it would have been good.

"I had a great time at Southend and their result it one of the first I look out for on the television after I have finished playing."

Freddy could soon be set to exit Wolves with Coventry City leading the chase for his signature, along with fellow Championship sides Queens Park Rangers and Cardiff City.

"I am not sure what will happen but I don't think I will be at Wolves next season," he added.
