Southend United supporters were a credit to the Club according to Chief Executive Geoffrey King on Friday night.

Blues hopes of a Wembley play-off final were dashed by a rampant Doncaster Rovers side who gave United a lesson in football.

However, despite witnessing their side crash to 5-1 defeat at the Keepmoat Stadium, it was the away fans that were in fine voice throughout.

"The fans were amazing on Friday night," said Mr King.

"I've never seen anything like it before; when the third went in they started to do a conga.

"If you had walked in at that point and not looked at the scoreboard you would have thought we were winning.

"There weren't many positives to take from the game, but that was certainly one of them!

"Our opposite numbers in the boardroom were full of praise, we certainly won the battle in the stands - if not on the pitch."

Chairman Ron Martin had laid on free coach travel to supporters, with over 2,000 making the trip to South Yorkshire.

And this morning the Club has been inundated with emails from Doncaster Rovers fans praising our supporters.

One read: "After all the years of supporting Rovers, we both said that we have never met such a nice, well mannered set of fans - all of them gracious in defeat.

"We wish you all the best for next season and we are sure you will make it up into the Championship next time round.

"Our upmost respect to all of your fans, all of which are welcome anytime to our ground."

From everybody at Southend United, we wish to thank you all for your support this season, and look forward to welcoming you back in August.
