Steve Tilson set his sights on the play-offs after Southend ended the League One season proper with a 1-1 draw against Port Vale.
The Blues chief witnessed Southend struggle to create in front of goal, but was happy to switch all thoughts straight on to the two-legged tie with Doncaster in the play-off semi-finals.
"I thought Port Vale were very negative," Steve told Blues World.
"I have never known a team to take so long over throw-ins and goal kicks and get as many bodies behind the ball.
"They came to shut up shop, which was disappointing.
"We had enough possession in the game, but we didn't create enough good chances. It just wouldn't quite break for us.
"I'm glad we equalised though, as we now go into the play-offs with one defeat in 15.
"From where we were at Christmas time, the lads have done fantastic to get into the play-offs.
"I'm now looking forward to Friday night against Doncaster
"They are a good footballing side and lively up front, so it will be a very good test.
"There are four good sides in the play-offs. There is not much between the four.
"I've said before in previous interviews that you need to put in a good performance and have a bit of luck on the day.
"Ideally, everyone would rather be at home in the second leg, but we need to put in a good performance.
"Over two legs, the sides are that even and bit of luck on the day could really help."
