Southend United came from behind at Wycombe Wanderers to secure a third consecutive draw in League One.

The Blues are still searching for their first league win of the new campaign, but Jean-Francois Christophe's bullet header on the stroke of half time kept up their unbeaten start to earn a 1-1 draw.

It was Christophe who flashed an early header wide of the left-hand post from Simon Francis' free kick before former Southend striker Matt Harrold wasn't far off connecting with a left wing cross which drifted narrowly wide.

Anthony Grant cut in from the right flank to arrow the ball into the gloves of goalkeeper Scott Shearer, but the first half began as a quiet affair, with neither side able to find any joy in getting beyond the defence in the final third.

Wycombe then nearly changed that as they looked to open the scoring in spectacular style, when Matt Phillips took aim from 20 yards out on the left with a rasping drive that flew just wide of the post.

But five minutes before the break, they did just that with Harrold on target against his former side. The striker pounced inside the box to head a right-wing corner beyond Steve Mildenhall.

Matt Heath looked to respond for Southend, as the defender charged forward and tried to beat Shearer to the ball inside the box, only for the goalkeeper to react quicker and block the ball behind.

Alan McCormack saw a long range strike deflect wide of the right-hand post moments later, but from the resultant corner, Christophe drew Southend level.

Franck Moussa played a short corner to Simon Francis and the defender whipped in a superb cross for Christophe to power a header into the roof of the net with the last kick of the first half.

Within the opening minute of the second half, Jon-Paul Pittman found space on the right-hand side to arrow the ball straight at Mildenhall.

More space was offered for Wycombe to again try their luck from long range when Phillips drilled the ball goalwards from outside the box, with Mildenhall alert to make a comfortable save.

Moussa looked to response at the other end of the field when he rifled a shot at goal from 25 yards out, which had Shearer off his feet to tip the ball over the top.

And direct from the corner, Dougie Freedman then came close when heading over at the near post, as Wycombe left the Scottish striker unmarked.

Wycombe were angered when Pittman looked to get away from Heath and go through on goal, with the referee waving play on as the striker went to ground under the on-loan defenders challenge.

At the other end, Freedman was soon left the frustrated party, as he went down inside the box, having felt his path blocked by Luke Oliver when he looked to turn the defender, but no foul was given.

Alex Revell came off the bench for Freedman and was almost immediately involved in attack, as he crashed the ball into the side netting.

With Southend pressing for a winner, Barnard then had a great chance in the closing minutes.

Shearer was caught in two minds and the goal was gaping, but the ball wouldn't bounce right for Barnard and as he shot over the top, Southend had to settle for yet another point.
