Backed up by a brilliant entourage of fans, Southend United ended the League One campaign with a hard fought 3-1 defeat at Southampton.
There were 1105 Blues fans inside St Mary's Stadium to see Franck Moussa open the scoring with a brilliant strike just 11 minutes into the second half.
The hosts did deliver a quick response though when League One's leading scorer Rickie Lambert headed in an equaliser within just two minutes.
Lambert then went on to win the game when blasting home a penalty just five minutes from time ahead of Adam Lallana completing the scoring with a last minute strike.
Jean-Yves M'Voto headed over an early chance for Southend when connecting with Johnny Herd's left wing corner before Kelvin Davis soon made a vital interception to palm away Matt Paterson's left wing cross, as it looked set to reach an unmarked Harry Crawford inside the box.
The Blues continued to make inroads in the final third, with Moussa collecting a pass from Crawford before arrowing a low shot that Davis had to get down to block.
Dean Hammond responded for the hosts when volleying the ball just over the top from 20 yards before the Southampton captain had another chance to shoot when turning inside the box, only to again miss the target.
Steve Mildenhall needed to bravely save at the feet of David Connelly, as the striker was put through on goal before a further chance arrived for Southampton at the end of the first half, as Lambert blasted a free kick just wide of the right-hand post.
Straight after the restart Lambert then lined up another free kick, which was this time crawled away by Mildenhall at his near post.
And Mildenhall was soon making another save from a similar position, as he dived to the ground to crawl away Jon Otsemobor's well-struck effort from long range.
Southampton were applying serious pressure in the early stages of the second half and Connelly should have scored when firing over from just six yards out.
Having dealt with the Southampton attacks though, the Blues went on to take the lead in the 56th minute when Moussa scored his sixth goal of the campaign.
The Belgian midfielder picked the ball up down the left flank, cut inside into space and drilled a stunning strike into the top corner of the net from all of 25 yards.
Crawford wasn't far from doubling Southend's lead moments later when twisting and turning his marker on the edge of the box before rifling a low shot narrowly past the right-hand post.
Unfortunately, Southend were ahead for just two minutes, as Lambert met Papa Waigo N'Diaye's right wing cross to power a header into the net from close range.
The chances continued to arrive for the Blues though when Paterson raced in the clear, but from a tight angle he could only shot wide with just Davis to beat.
Lallana delivered a low left-wing cross that found an unmarked Jason Puncheon inside the box, but he side footed the ball wide.
The second half was continuing to be a much more opening and entertaining affair and Mildenhall was kept further busy when making a good save to push a strike from Puncheon around his post.
With just five minutes remaining though, Southampton were awarded a soft penalty when Lambert went down under a challenge from M'Voto inside the area that allowed the striker to step up and blast the ball past Mildenhall, despite the goalkeeper diving the right way.
Marcus Milner came off the bench two minutes from time to make his first-team debut, but Lallana went on to confirm the victory for Southampton at the death when breaking the offside trap and hitting a composed finish into the back of the net.
