Second half goals from Adam Barrett and Jean-Francois Christophe helped Southend United close out the season in eighth spot in League One, after a 2-0 victory at home to Cheltenham Town.
It was a comfortable win for the Blues, who created a host of chances - especially throughout the second half - in which to have further boosted their goal tally.
After Barrett headed Southend in front, Christophe went on to make the three points safe with a brilliant strike into the top corner of the net just a minute from time.
Yet Cheltenham should have taken the lead in the opening exchanges when Michael Antonio blazed over from in front of goal when it seemed easier to score.
Yuri Berchiche delivered a low cross from the left flank, which eluded the Southend defence, and arrived into the path of Antonio from just a few yards out, but the striker blazed the ball straight over the top.
For the rest of the first half, the Blues were never troubled and although they struggled to really test Cheltenham, they did create a series of half chances.
Theo Robinson did have the ball in the back of the net when he turned it in from a corner, but he was penalised for handball and the effort was disallowed.
But Robinson was heavily involved in further attacks, turning into the penalty box from the left flank and arrowing the ball straight at goalkeeper Will Puddy before directing another effort at the Cheltenham stopper, this time from the right.
Good build-up play from Franck Moussa helped Alan McCormack go close when he drilled the ball goalwards from the edge of the box, but it sailed just wide of the left-hand post.
Further pressure continued to arrive from Southend, but the end product was missing, as Robinson finished the half by connecting with Anthony Grant's cross at the far post, only to volley the ball up and over.
Moussa dragged an early shot into the side netting after the break and it was the pattern of play for most of the second half.
The deadlock was broken the 54th minute though, when Barrett reacted first to Simon Francis' free kick from the right to produce a bullet header into the roof of the net, which gave Puddy no chance of saving.
Steve Mildenhall had to beat out a free kick from David Hutton, but Southend were back at the other end with some trickery from Damian Scannell setting up Moussa, who miss-hit the ball when well positioned on goal.
Moussa had an even better chance shortly after when he met Francis' cross, but he blazed over from in front of goal, before Lee Barnard looked to take advantage of a poor clearance out by Puddy, with a long range attempt that wasn't far from hitting the target.
The Blues' continued to find the space they needed in the final third and Kevin Betsy's swift turn inside the box handed him a great opportunity, only for his shot to sail over the top.
With time ticking down, it seemed as though a second goal would dessert Southend, but Christophe had other ideas and after he met Moussa's square pass in the 89th minute, he drilled a superb strike into the back of the net from 20 yards out.
It put the seal on Southend's final game of the season, with their rich vein of form since Christmas helping them to an impressive finish of eighth in the table.
