Southend United Football Club is pleased to announce The University of Essex as proud new sponsors of the clubs Centre of Excellence.

The University of Essex have agreed a two-year deal to sponsor Southend United's Centre of Excellence teams, which range from under 8's through to under 16's.

All of the age groups kits will carry the University's logo on the front of their shirts for the next two years.

The University, which has campuses in Colchester, Loughton and Southend, take over from previous sponsors Safe and Secure.

Southend United Head of Youth Ricky Duncan said: "We are delighted that the University of Essex has agreed to back the Centre of Excellence.

"Their significant investment in the development of Southend United will enable us to continue to nurture the stars of the future.

"As we continue to build towards academy status, and the new stadium, this sponsorship agreement signifies a major stepping stone towards that goal."

The University of Essex's Claire Lindsay, Marketing Manager, said: "The University of Essex is delighted to be able to support Southend United's Centre of Excellence.

"Through our widening participation work, the University is involved in a range of activities designed to raise aspirations of young people. We believe in championing excellence and helping young people achieve their goals, an aim shared by the Centre of the Excellence."
