BLOG: GETTING IN CHARACTER

Posted on: Fri 14 Nov 2008

Defender Adam Barrett offers an exclusive blog on southendunited.co.uk today.

There was much laughter at the training ground this week when it was unveiled what the players would be wearing to our annual Christmas party.

Every year we go away for a night before Christmas and it is always a good team bonding event.

Christmas is pretty much a non-starter for a footballer but you accept that because it is part of the job.

However, it is nice to still have a get together before the more serious stuff begins as it is always a busy time with lots of games and plenty of points up for grabs.

This year's event will see us all out in fancy dress but instead of choosing your own costume, we choose each others!

We all wrote a character down on a piece of paper yesterday and drew them out and it created a bit of laughter.

Peggy Lokondo having to dress up like Harry Potter was a personal favourite and how Irishman Alan McCormack managed to get the Leprechaun outfit I will never know.

He won't even have to spend any money as rumour has it he already has the costume in his wardrobe.

I myself am looking forward to being Snow White but not as much as Alex Revell is at being Cinderella. He was desperate to be one of the female characters - that's a story for another time though.

Lee Barnard being Rambo is quite a worry. Lee can't even get dressed without injuring himself so I'm not sure being all action John Rambo is such a good idea.

Damian Scannell drew the short straw though and has to select a SUFC team-mate to go as. So if he was to select me for example he would have to wear my full kit complete with name and number and a baldy cap.

However, the funniest one has to be Paul Furlong as a woman. If anyone has seen the film To Wong Foo Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar we all reckon he's going to be a dead ringer for the character Noxeema Jackson who is played by Wesley Snipes (see picture).

For your amusement below is the full list:

Steve Mildenhall (The Hulk), Simon Francis (Buzzlight Lightyear), Peter Clarke (Jack Sparrow), Adam Barrett (Snow White), Anthony Grant (Hugh Heffner), Alan McCormack (Leprechaun), Lee Barnard (Rambo), James Walker (Robin Hood), Alex Revell (Cinderella), Damian Scannell (SUFC team-mate), Osei Sankofa (Michael Jackson), Dougie Freedman (Ghostbuster), Hal Robson-Kanu (Spiderman), Johhny Herd (Ali G), Charles Ademeno (Emu), JF Christophe (Superman), Kevin Betsy (The Incredibles), Dan Harding (Robin), Ian Joyce (Gangster), Clark Masters (Santa Claws), Francis Laurent (Austin Powers), Peggy Lokondo (Harry Potter), Lee Sawyer (Wolverine), Paul Furlong (A Women), Stuart O'Keefe (Wonder Women), Adam Federici (Danger Mouse), Jamie Forshaw (Beetle Juice), Luke Thurlbourne (Miami Vice).
