I couldn't let this week's column go by without talking about the Leeds performance last Tuesday.
I thought it was an absolutely fantastic performance and showcased exactly what this team is capable of and, equally as important, what type of football we can play.
We were also delighted that it was Dan Harding who managed to score the goal which won the game for us. It's no secret that Dan has had a difficult spell of late, but it was a great free kick against his former Club - he's clearly been watching the Revsters' set pieces in training!
And then there was Colchester.
We came out of the blocks firing and got off to the perfect start with two goals within 20 minutes. I thought we could have easily built on it further and to be honest whilst they had a bit of possession they weren't hurting us. But then they got a lucky deflection to make it 2-1 and this seemed to change the whole balance of the game.
You're at a strange place mentally when that happens to you, for example, do you push on for a third or do you try and keep it tight? Ultimately you try and choose the option which has the smallest risk, but by doing this it cost us on Saturday when they equalised. This meant that we then had to start again, facing a team high on confidence and momentum, even more so when they then took the lead.
However, it was almost written in the stars that we were going to equalise as it highlighted how together this team is, and that we are always there to dig in for each other until the final whistle. I cannot state enough how much playing in this team means for everyone here, and yes, we can be disappointed that we didn't finish the game off within the first half hour, but this is counteracted by the qualities we showed to battle to the end and keep the form guide looking positive.
We now have Telford on Saturday which on paper is an easy tie, but none of us will treat it as such. When games like this happen, the 'Man Utd effect' (or Leeds if you listened to Gary McAllister's comments) occurs, where the opposition raises their game, and with it being on their home turf, Telford will be up for it. We know this and need to limit any complacency otherwise it'll turn in to a Cup horror story on the highlight show on Saturday night.
Off the field, Barrett's still having a pop I see with his tanorexic comments about the boy Revs. Whilst I won't deny that I've visited the electric beach on one or two occasions, I still find his comments unfair, although the lads have been referring to him as Casper over recent times due to the fact he's as pale as a ghost. He doesn't seem too bothered though as he's buzzing by the fact I compared him to Paul Scholes last week, so much so he's been knocking 50 yard passes all around Boots and Laces, with most of them ending up in Waitrose mind!
I think that it's time the feud ended between us though, after all, I can't help it if I'm from Costa del Cambridge, and he can't help it that he was brought up in the age of the typewriter!
Saying that though, his skills must be improving as I see the bids are coming in on ebay for the shirts we wore on Saturday, with his set at £100 the last time I checked. Note to Adam though, if you are going to bid on your own shirt, try using an alias, as abarrett1921 (the year he was born) doesn't take the work of Columbo to figure out who it is!
In all seriousness, the players acknowledge what a good cause the Poppy Appeal is, and again, the one minute silence was well observed by the majority on Saturday and we are all grateful for those who served us in those times. By looking at the website and seeing how high the bids are already is a testament to all Blues fans, as we all know how hard times have become, but to allocate money to charity is very noble and I thank you.
Nothing special for this week's dish, just good old Gastro Pub grub:
Sausage (Walls of course!) and mash covered in onion gravy - simple but very effective, a bit like Betsy!
Take care, and I'll see you soon,
