We are delighted to confirm that Sheffield Wednesday youngster Caolan Lavery has joined the Club on a youth loan until the end of the season.
The 20-year-old striker has been a regular in the Championship club’s under-21 development squad and will be available for selection ahead of tomorrow’s game against Chesterfield.
Lavery began his career with Ipswich Town before moving to Wednesday in 2012. He is yet to make a senior appearance for them.
The youngster represented Canada at under-17 level before opting to play for Northern Ireland where he has won caps at both under-19 and under-21 level.
Blues boss Paul Sturrock said: “We’re delighted to have got the young lad in and we’re confident he can make a big impact for the remainder of the season.
“He’s a bright player and we hope we can help him improve as a player. We’ve been looking at him for a while so we’re very pleased to have got him here until the end of the season.”
Speaking about joining Blues on loan, Lavery said: “I’m delighted to have come here to Southend. I’m really looking forward to getting started and getting some professional games under my belt.
“Hopefully I can help Southend in their bid for promotion and I can improve and develop my game while I’m here.”
