The Club are delighted to announce that midfielder Marc Laird has agreed a deal to sign permanently following the termination of his contract at Leyton Orient.
The former Millwall man has enjoyed a very successful loan spell here at Roots Hall this season and has signed an 18-month contract with the Club that will see him stay here until the end of the 2013-14 campaign.
Marc began his career with Manchester City but failed to break into their first team. He enjoyed loan spells at Northampton Town and Port Vale before sealing a move to Millwall in 2008.
Marc enjoyed three years at the Den before going out on loan to Brentford and Walsall. In the summer of 2011, Marc joined Orient on a two-year deal.
He made 27 appearances in all competitions during his first season with Orient, before moving on loan to Blues at the end of October.
Marc didn’t lose a game in a Blues shirt until defeat at Burton Albion last weekend.
Following the completion of his move, Marc said: “I’ve really enjoyed my time here at Southend and I’m delighted to have signed a permanent deal.
“I’ve got on well with all of the lads who have been fantastic to me during my time here so far. Hopefully I can play a helping hand in getting the Club into League 1 this season.”
Blues boss Paul Sturrock was delighted to have secured the services of the 26-year-old on a permanent basis.
He said: “We’re thrilled to have got Marc in because he’s been excellent for us since he arrived on loan.
“He brings a lot to the table in midfield and he played a big role in our unbeaten run that we put together.
“He works hard in training, gets on well with all the lads, and most importantly he has been enjoying his football with us. We’re delighted to have him with us permanently.”
