Southend United will be in the hat for the third round of the FA Cup following a 1-1 draw with League 1 Bury at Gigg Lane.
Gavin Tomlin's equaliser means it'll be back to Roots Hall to decide who will be in the next round, after Matt Doherty's penalty put the home side ahead.
Blues began brightly and almost went ahead when Ryan Cresswell, playing against his former club, leapt highest from Kevan Hurst's cross but just couldn't get a good enough connection to divert it towards goal.
The first shot on target came with 25 minutes gone as Freddy Eastwood, in for the ineligible Britt Assombalonga, saw his 25-yard effort saved comfortably by Trevor Carson.
The home side had rarely threatened going forward, but just after the half-hour mark they were ahead. Ryan Cresswell was adjudged to have bundled Lenell John-Lewis. Doherty stepped up and sent Paul Smith the wrong way from 12 yards.
Bury had found their feet but ten minutes later, Blues were level thanks to excellent work from Tomlin. Marc Laird's ball down the line set the striker free before he beat Ethan Ebanks-Landell all ends up and poked the ball past Carson to level.
It was Blues who created the best opening of the second half as Tomlin again threatened. This time though following Laird's lay off, he failed to get a good enough connection and Carson saved comfortably.
Smith then had to be at his best to deny Troy Hewitt's overhead kick as Bury went on the attack before Blues' goalkeeper then beat Gregg Wylde's rasping drive away.
At the other end, Michael Timlin and Cresswell both blazed over as both sides went in search of a winner.
As the game ticked into stoppage time, Blues twice came within a whisker of winning it. First, Timlin curled one agains the far post before substitute Barry Corr hit the post from the rebound.
That was to be the last real action of a frantic second half, which means it will be back to Roots Hall to decide who goes through to round three.
